Nerf Maverick Review

The Nerf N Strike Maverick is the best selling Nerf gun of all-time, which is really saying something, given the number of iconic weapons Nerf has produced over the years.

The Nerf N Strike Maverick is a six-shot semi-automatic blaster that will shoot as fast as you can pump and pull the trigger. It features great range and accuracy, and the pop out chamber is a lot of fun.

Best Nerf gun ever! Great range for a pistol style gun. Best of all, it’s a REVOLVER! Revolvers are the coolest handguns ever made. And with a simple little mod, you cam make the reloading drum (forgot what that part was called) pop all the way out without it falling off the gun.

  2. Rblake says:

This was my son’s first Nerf gun. I never appreciated it until I started shooting the others: Raider, Recon, MagStrike, AS-20, SwitchShot, and the Vulcan. The Maverick is extremely accurate and shoots 25-30ft flat, and up to ~45ft angled. I love the dart velocity. It does jam if the darts aren’t pushed in all the way, but it’s very easy to fix and easy to reload. I wish it held 10+ darts, but still this is my 2nd favorite gun next to the Raider. I highly recommend this gun. It should be a staple in everyone’s nerf armory.

  3. Enoch says:

This gun is the best there is. It is small, lightweight and holds 6 bullets. Its range and accuracy are superb for a handgun plus it never jams. You only need to mod it so that the barrel flicks out all the way instead of one third by cutting/breaking off the white bits on each side of the barrel. then u take the air restricters out and u have an awesome gun. I would recommend this over the Nite Finder because of lack of ammo capacity though the Nite Finder is way easy to mod.

  4. vashts6583 says:

People say I’m crazy, but I prefer the Maverick over any other nerf gun out there. It’s easy to modify, and there are lots of modifications that can be made to make it better. Basically, if you don’t like something about it, it’s easy to fix and/or make better, if you have a couple of simple tools. :þ

  5. mstar55 says:

I have had a NERF Maverick since I was 10, and I absolutely love it! I modded it so that when you bull the bolt or whatever it’s called back, the bolt doesn’t spring back until I pull the trigger.

  6. Nerffan3 says:

The Maverick is a very reliable gun that you can depend on not to jam in Nerf wars. It is my trusty sidearm.

  7. matt says:

the maverick is THE best gun it rarely jams its great for kids in a nerf war i want the maverickat my side i have 4 of them i moded one to have the recon barrel hot glue works the best i kinda regret this mod though it looks kool but makes it bulky dont do this mod if you love thr maverick

  8. WWJEREMY says:

One of the best Nerf blasters around. Handy sidearm that never fails. I think it’s got a great price, range, but a not-so-good-look because it’s one of the 1st N-Strike blasters, and lacks the patterns and feel of the newer Nerf blasters.

  9. King-Hamn says:

I love this gun alot, but mine is slightly broken with age and misuse (trying to curve bullets ;) ). I wouldn’t recommend giving it to a child if you want it to last longer than a year or two.
overall i give it a 10/10 because all NERF’s other sidearms are pieces of crap. another misuse that would break it is Russian Roulette. spinning the rev too much makes it start to jam.

  10. Nate says:

A real nice gun. It’s my first choice for a sidearm, but it’s very big for a pistol. The best thing to do with it if you want to hold another gun, is get some kind of belt-clip device, and clip it onto the litte ring on the back of the cock, the clip it onto your belt. overall very good gun. nice for playing russian roulette with. hehe……..
p.s. if you use it for russian roulette, spin the barrel BEFORE REPEAT BEFORE putting it into the gun, otherwise it might break.

  11. howlingbanshee7 says:

This is one awesome gun. I love the 6 revolver barrel. I’ve taken down recons with this

  12. J says:

My maverick has a problem. Every time I pull back the pump, and just release it, it slings back into the non-primed position. This only happened to one of my Mavericks fortunately. Do you have an idea about what happened?

    • adam says:

it happened to my friends one,he has had it for a while and i expect he drops it hehe

      • Jonathan says:

Mine did that after I modified it, but I found a solution. Take the pistol-esque cocking lever off (or slide, whatever it’s called). Then, find a piece of .125 in. round steel dowel and cut it to about 3 in. long. Take 2 1.5 in pieces of .5 in or wider wood doweling and drill a .125 in hole in the center of each dowel chunk about halfway in. Loop the metal rod through the little spring (NOT the main spring) that pulled the cocking lever back originally, in front of the nub on the air pump thing. Jam the dowels onto the ends of the 3 in. metal rod so that they touch the sides of the gun. This creates a toggle like cocking mechanism which has worked every time for me. Hope this helps.

    • random nerf guy says:

      J,
Your Maverick, Well, Its Broken. The bar inside the slide is getting weak and will break soon.what the metal bar does is releases the spring that primes the gun.

  13. NERFINATOR says:

    Hi guys,
I am planning on getting a Nerf Maverick next week.
After reading all your positive comments I felt like “This is the one or me”
    Thanks for the tips.

  14. NERFINATOR says:

Hey. I got my Nerf Maverick Rev-6 Yesterday. It is so cool…..
Will do an unboxing video and post it on youtube. Then I will give you the link….

  15. DKking says:

Well my Maveric is pritty much dead… The cocking mecanisum is the problem… When I pull it back and releast it, it doesn’t cock. I think it fires on me when it swings back… It was great when it didn’t do that but, atlas It will break if misued.

  16. ebhgb says:

amazing, it look great and is very handy when my other guns run out of bullets i always like the look of it and when i got it,wow it was unbelieble it has got tob one of my fav nerf gun ever.

The link to my first unboxing video of my first nerf gun but the best. The Maverick

  18. the dude says:

This is my first nerf gun. It is comletely AWESOME! The range is great, it is accurate, it has fast reload time (I emptied it in about 6 seconds), and it only has one flaw: it looks AWFUL with any attachment on it. Overall, great nerf gun for beginners to veterans.

  19. Gdude910 says:

I tryed modding a clear maverick, and since it was my first mod, i accindentally broke it. So since i love the maverick, im going to buy a new one not clear tho unfortunately. I mite buy an alpha trooper to.

  20. David says:

I started out with a Firefly Rev-8 and then after that I got my first Maverick. I have two now, one yellow and one clear. They’ve been by go-to blasters for a long time.
Yesterday I got a Barricade RV-10 and I’ve been trying to train myself to use it and break into the semi-auto game, but for the past few years, it’s been all about the Mavericks. And even now I don’t intend to go into battle with my Barricade witout at least one Maverick in my belt.
My friend hates his Mavericks, he says they always jam on him. But I think he must just not be putting the darts in far enough, because my Mavericks almost NEVER jam. Almost NEVER. It’s a great gun, from its 6-dart barrel to its pullback slide that can work really fast. It’s easy to reload and all-around great.
In my mind the Maverick is the standard for Nerf guns. When I see new blasters I put them in one of three categories: Not as good as the Maverick, just as good as the Maverick, or Better than the Maverick.

  21. Skyboss says:

I love this gun, but I need a new one. Every time my friend comes over, the spins the barrel in the firing position. Then he always drops it. The arming lever springs forward before I can aim or shoot at all. He doesn’t know this though. And I just thought of a white elephant gift for him. Thanks for the service maverick!

  22. random guy says:

Surprisingly, the maverick shoots further with whistler darts than suction darts. It should be everyones favorite if not than it should be second(after raider which is also awesome). It is cheap(compared to other nerf guns),accurate, fast to reload and shoot, reliable and shoots very far.I did not expect it to be so big though…….

  23. Nick says:

I never really appreciated it at first, mainly because my first one had flaws. I then got another one about a year after that, and I really loved it. It is your straight forward, no-frills gun. It is cheap, and very durable. When I’m not using my barricade or my stampede, I’m using this trusty thing.

  24. Sniper says:

It would be beast if this could use a barrel! I actually thought it could, and I was disappointed when I saw that it couldn’t.

  25. adam says:

I don’t have this gun but u could play russian roulette with this or a barricade rv-10!!!

  26. dwhite says:

dam i love this gun ive had it since i was 7 and its got great distance and accuracy

  27. Adam says:

How far does this go when air restrictors r taken out and the spring is upgraded and there is pennies in it to eliminate dead space and to balance it and to increase lifespan?

  28. Wallf says:

The Nerf Maverick is the best Nerf gun That i have and I have 4 of them. This gun only jams when you make a mistake when putting the darts in and doesn’t damage darts. This gun has a range of about 30-35 feet. all up this is a great gun and it looks cool to so i give it a 9-10

  29. Adam says:

When modded this is a party

  30. maximan says:

Maverick is sick as I have one and I modded it to shoot 90-110 feet!

  31. Cody Cromarty says:

Currently my primary sidearm. Very good range and accuracy and a fast shooter if you practice cocking. Make sure to cock it overhand instead of slingshotting it for faster speed and better grip.

Only problems are a bulky size for a sidearm, slow reload (only a bit over 2 chambers are visible when loading, so no way to make a speedloader without modding the cylinder), and the cylinder latch is in front of the trigger so you need to use your off hand to pop it out, unlike a real revolver.

P.S. If you ever feel the urge to play Russian Roulette, go for this one!

  32. Jonathan says:

I took out the air restricters and added (that’s right ADDED) an airsoft gun spring. It didn’t cock quite right, so I took off the pistol-esque slider and put in a more toggle like one. The rate of fire is increased, as is the range :)

  33. Railfan1 says:

I modified one with a ball point pen spring. It now shoots REALLY far.

  34. Cookie says:

    pros: shoots very far,pretty accurate
    cons: gets jammed a lot

  35. W says:

I got my butt kicked in a Nerf war by a Maverick teamed with a Stampede. I found out that it has great accuracy, too. Never get ambushed by a guy with a Maverick. I want one. Where can you find them?

  36. JLiang says:

It’s ironic that the icon of NERF Blasters is named after the word meaning ‘ordinary’ and ‘unobtrusive, regular’.

  37. j-roc says:

Help, I put the gun back together and now the barrels dont line up with the muzzle so that it won’t fire a dart. (basically the barrels line up half blocked and half exposed. I have tried to reassemble it several times and each time the same thing. Can anyone tell me how to get the barrel to line up right?

  38. ben says:

A handy sidearm, have either this or the Barrel Break by your side and you’re a total kick-@$$

  39. Jack says:

I’m just wondering if this blaster could compete against other primary blasters?

  40. TJ says:

This is an awesome gun. I kinda don’t like the fact that you have to pull the trigger back real far, but It’s still great as a sidearm, sometimes as a primary. You can easily take down Recons, Speedloads, and maybe even a Barricade if you do the String/Lanyard method. It’s an awesome dual-wield technique. You could use any type of dart, but the ones with the big head, like the Taggers, Whistlers, and Sonic Micros can jam a little. just a LITTLE bit.
    Recommended as a sidearm. 10/10

  41. Bodie says:

The Maverick is great, but if you shoot quickly AT ALL it will jam. The jam is easy to fix though. As a primary, I would say 7/10, but as a sidearm, 9/10. The Nite Finder is a better sidearm, big time.
