Nerf Longshot Review
The Nerf Longshot is one of the best Nerf guns on the market, though it does take a little work to make it reach its potential.
Out of the box, the Nerf Longshot only shoots about 35 feet — about the same as other (smaller) guns in the N-Strike line. You might be a little disappointed at first, because you would generally expect that a Nerf gun with a scope and the word “longshot” in its name would have a ridiculously awesome range. But fear not! There is hope.
The Longshot is one of the easiest Nerf guns to modify, and a couple simple changes to the internals can make an incredible difference in its performance.
Internally, there are very few small parts and there isn’t any glue holding things down, so you can pop open the shell and make your changes very quickly. You can easily more than double the range by simply replacing the spring and removing the air restrictors, at which point you’ll have a seriously awesome Nerf sniper rifle on your hands.
I only have one real complaint about the Nerf Longshot, and it’s pretty minor: the pistol attachment is close to worthless. It gets terrible range and accuracy, and when mounted, it decreases the range of your shots and can lead to accuracy problems. I recommend that you just take it off, give it to your little brother (if he’s armed it’s ok to shoot him), and be done with it.
Recently, there has been a lot of discussion about whether the Longshot or the Longstrike is a better gun. Ultimately, the answer depends on whether or not you intend to modify it.
If you do like to modify your Nerf guns, the Longshot will give you the most bang for your buck. The reverse plunger system found in the Longstrike (as well as the Recon and Raider) greatly limits the range that you can squeeze out of the gun, and no matter what you do, it will never shoot as far as the Longshot.
However, if you don’t like to mod your Nerf guns, both guns will give you similar performance out of the box, and you should make your selection based on which one appeals more to your playing style.

Personally this is is my favorite Nerf gun. Modding this gun is quite easy, it has no glue, few small parts, and no plastic parts that must be broken. After it has been modded it can shot between 70 to 100 feet. A modded Longshot will out-shoot almost all (If not all) other modded or standard Nerf guns.
It is great for long range attacks, however is too slow for close range battles. The scope is mostly useless so this gun will require practice at aiming for the long range shots. When modded it is also very loud. The pistol by itself is worthless, however when attached it seems to increase range and accuracy very slightly. In my opinion, once modded this is the ultimate Nerf Sniper gun.
It is. I took 4 of the AAA industrial springs and interwound them as my replacement spring and removed the AR. fired one shot and absolutely destroyed the casing but the shot traveled 1.5 kilometres (with an up hill start, stefan darts and a huge tail wind) have since gone with Orange mods kit and stuck with 100 Ft just so i don’t even make a monster like that again RIP 1.5 K longshot
this gun has more bark than bite, the range stinks for a “sniper rifle” my third nerf gun. without the barrel or the scope and with a raider drum , this is an awesome gun for hitting opponents that are popping in and out of cover. 35ft just sounds far its only about 2 car lengths.
Personally, I don’t like the Longshot because of how they say it’s a sniper rifle. Come on, it could at least have 50 feet.
I have one of these for 3 months
good aspects
one = very accurate
two = very, very strong
three = serves to attack by surprise
bad aspects
has no bad side
I have the lougshoot and elchavox13 is wrong about everthing because it is a base gun.
Eli, the longshot has capabilities of being a base gun. It also is a field gun or rifle. Elchavox13, you are wrong about everything. The longshot’s scope is extremely inaccurate. The gun is very strong. The longshot’s reloading is too long for surbrise attacks.
I have a modded Longshot right now and all I can say is:
#1. This NERF gun did not shoot anywhere near 35 feet.
#2. The reloading mechanism was way to bulky.
#3. The pistol/barrel extension made it less accurate.
#4. The stock, after a while, would slide back into the shorter area.
I had to put a nail into the stock to hold it in place (cause It hurts my hand when its shortened).
I sanded down the Reloading mechanism and glued it in on the other side (threw away the other piece cause no one left handed is going to use it).
and I destroyed the pistol/barrel extension to make a slightly extended barrel (mainly for looks).
I could not fix the distance issue, I don’t have skills in that department.
I have had my longshot shot for about a year now and it is holding up great. It is heavily modded so the range is 90-100 feet. Yeah, its a big heavy gun, but with practice, it can out shoot any other n-strike gun.
I have this nerf blaster. Its cool and all. But it doesn’t shoot far. The guy up made me not wanting to mod it. I recommend shooting this nerf gun from high places. I only modded a nerf gun once too. I would rate it at 9 out of 10.
hi, when you say replace the spring, do i try and get a better one? and also, what are the air restriictors? I am thinking that i have to have a good knowledge of this before even attempting to improve the range.
Replacing the spring means replacing it for a stronger one, giving better ranges and power. And, about air restrictors(ARs), they are some kind of mechanism inside the barrel to restrict air, as the name says, so that the darts shot won’t have too much power so that it won’t blind, hurt, injure, etc, etc, users, since Nerf guns are targeted to children aged 6+
im getting this gun for christmas (i know because im a kid and its hard not to look in your parents closet) and i am pumped. i intend to lightly mod this gun and want to know what an air restrictor looks like. does anyone have an answer???
An Air Restrictor should be a three-pronged plastic piece with a spring attatched beneath. It should look like or be a variant of the following image:

Hope that helped!
im waiting on custom made titanium longshot… all titanium parts and casing. it has been re-engineered for maximum range and accuracy. even a durn fluted barrel on it… lol costing me a leg but its gunna kick all ur buts from the next state!
and it will still use standard darts and compatable with standard clips, but im also getting 3 titanium clips… cant wait 4 it! =)
Well, I got it a few months ago and I modified it and it shoots up to 800 feet accurately and a 1,000 feet maximum. I have to make another scope because the scope on my Barricade is inaccurate.
PS I’m “a Guy” on the Barricade page.
Dude what did u do to make ur gun shoot that far?????
BTW whats better Longstrike or Longshot?
thats bull. absolute bull. i mod nerf guns, and the most ouut of a longshot i can get is 160 ft non angled, and that after about two shots deystroys the gun.look me up on youtube, mrdarkmonkey96 i also paint them for a hobby. contracts are open so if you likie waht you see, and want one, send me a message. btw 800 feet, what are you smoking?
Do you realize this is in the wrong catagory? Should be under n-strike…
Thanks for the catch.
The Longshot CS-6. I have read quite a few reviews on this particular gun, and it seems that the negative feedback given to the Longshot is unfortunately true. My brother purchased this gun and we both were excited to un-box the Longshot, put it together and fire it. We were extremely disappointed with the range of this gun. What’s worse is the Longshot is based on an Anti-Material Rifle which means that the range is meant to be even longer than that of a Sniper Rifle!
Besides the disappointing range, the Longshot performs well in terms of not jamming and accuracy. If you read my previous review on the Recon CS-6, you would have read about the front barrel attachment decreasing the range, but increasing the accuracy. this is the same principle for the Longshot. I personally believe that the barrel attachment is a waste. The extra blaster on the front has very poor performance and the long length of the barrel chews your range too much for my liking.
Another downside of the Longshot is it only has one tactical rail meaning only one attachment can be used at a time.
When I use this gun (after I steal it off my brother
) I take off the barrel. It makes it so much easier to sneak around and the accuracy isn’t affected as much as the Recon when the barrel is removed.
The reliability of this gun is quite good. If your looking to purchase a gun that will last and doesn’t jam often, this is your gun. The cocking mechanism is smooth and easy to use and it uses the clip system. So faster reloading with backup clips
Stay sharp all Nerf gunners, Soap.
I don’t have this blaster. I am not a modder, so which is better un-modded-Longshot or Longstrike?
Hey bud, My brother owns the Longshot, and the range with the barrel is really disappointing. When taken off, the range and power is insane!
I unfortunately haven’t used the Longstrike before, but I have read the Longstrike does shoot further. I prefer the look of the Longstrike and the flip-up sight on my recon is far more accurate than the scope.
So in my opinion, get the Longstrike
Stay sharp nerf gunner, Soap.
Thanks very much
i recently purchased this gun from Big W( I’m in Australia) and was extremly disappointed when i had to assemble the handle of the extension gun to the barrel. I also found the handle was broken and had to return it to the shop.
Before this, i managed to try the main gun. I must say,it’s pretty sweet compared to my Recon.
I bought the Longshot from Big W in Australia and had the same problem. When you returned it what did they say about it? And does that happen with all Longshots from Big W…
Ahh… The Longshot, my second Nerf gun. I have had this thing for at least 3 years, and it started having the range of about 5 feet after 2 years. Lately, though, it has had about 40 feet, and I am happily thinking about modding it. Sadly, my reloading mechanism broke, and is now replaced by a nail, which is a bit awkward. If you want cosmetics, the Longshot looks epic with nothing on it and the bipod down.
I recently bought this gun as my second Nerf gun, and it’s a real treat. It was easy to mod following various instructions found on the net, even for someone as technically challenged as myself. I only removed the air restrictor and a couple of other little things, but the range has still seen a considerable improvement. If I were to replace the spring I would have to use modded darts, as standard streamlines’ flight is too unreliable. In any case I now have a Nerf gun with excellent range and decent accuracy with standard streamlines. It is not as good in close combat as other guns due to its size, however it’s usefulness at distance outweighs it’s weakness in close quarters.
Overall this is an excellent gun, and I recommend modding it, just make sure you put the plunger back in the right way! Coupled with a couple of 18 clips this makes for a formidable weapon which would go well with a maverick.
The Longshot-CS6 is great when shooting from far away but its terrible in close combat.I have two nerf guns.Stampede and longshot. I have nerf wars with my brother so i let him borrow my stampede.Ok so the nerf war starts. So at first im pwning him from far coz hes constantly missing.Me? Im shooting him in the head constantly.Ok now he decides to charge in. Ok so now its the other way around hes pwing me badly and im trying to reload but no coz hes constantly shooting…
so get my point Lonshot CS6
OWNZ in long distance
SUKS in close combat
the front gun is for close quarters combat
I am really tossing up between a longstrike and a longshot. Honestly is there any difference. Which one would be the better bet if I wasn’t going to mod it?
@new2nerf
I have had the same problem of choice as you i am not going to mod my gun, i have decided to go with the longshot because currently ALL my guns are close range, i have these recon cs-6, raider cs-35, maverick rev 6, night finder and my crazy kick butt turret, the vulcan
Howdy folks.
So where is the best place to go to get better springs for the longshot (or any nerf gun)?
p.s. I’m in Australia.
Thanks guys
In Australia, eh?
Well probably anybody could buy them online, or at some hardwere store, but the BEST spring….my advice is the stronger the better. BUT be very careful because I heared that people messed up there guns with overpowered or too big springs.
ive had my longshot for almost 5 years, and when i got it i became temporarily stupid (because i was 9) and threw out the o-ring seal. since then, i have rebuilt a seal out of a recon seal and some tape, added springs, replaced the barrel with pbc and now im getting about 90 feet flat. this is the best nerf gun you can get (even better than the stampede because i have both) and im going to buy a 4×32 airsoft scope for it. if your thinking about getting totally buy it
If you want good Longshot springs, use a website called Black Tactical, they do custom springs, o rings and reinforced internal parts for Nerf guns, including the Longshot. And the exchange rate’s good at the moment, too
I have 2 nerf guns, the Recon and the Longshot, i prefer to use the Recons laser sight because when i’m moving around the house the laser sight helps alot and i find that it you can line the top of the sight up properly it can be as acurate as the scope.
So Does anyone Know where to buy the longshot.
I love this gun. It is my primary weapon, sad fact is, I have never played a nerf war. So I can’t really use it properly. I have modded it now has a ridiculously long range. One problem is the accuracy, it very noticeably spins in the air. I’ve added a compass and am about to paint it. If anyone is hosting a nerf war in Australia, sunshine coast please tell me.
Ok I don’t know what to get out of stampede or longshot and can someone tell me if molding is safe to the gun
the long shot seems to be losing popularity because of the
recon
Is This Gun Worth Buying
Also What is better? The Longshot Or The LongStrike?
I got a longshot quite recently and was experimenting with different combinations and I found that the most accurate was the standard scope with the barrel extension from a Longstrike and on the top Tactical rail of the extension have the sight from the longstrike with the front ‘flip up’ part up and lining up the scope sight with the lines on the ‘flip up sight’ for different ranges
Of course, you would need to buy both first
Longshot or longstrike or stampede? non! I’m getting the new vortex ones and they say it shoots further than any n-strike ones.
Hey guys got a question. I am a gun modder and i have my own prized longshot that i have gone through more than 2 sets of guts for it.
You guys have been talking about these springs from the hardware store, what are the specifications for these springs so i can get some?
Long Live the Longshot.
Do not get the Vortex. I have the Praxis, and it shoots far, good point, but it has no accuracy even without wind. The discs curve too much to shoot further than 15-20 feet. I am playing Nerf inside and none of my friends want to use it. DOn’t get it, unless it’s your first gun.
Help!
I’ve got the longshot and found 2 errors (not including the crappy range and accuracy)
1. I’ve found that the handle of the extension gun does not go back far enough to actually shoot the the bullet
2. My clip gets stuck if I put more than three bullets in and I have to bang it on the ground before the bottom of it pops back up.
Anyone got any good guides to mod the gun to make it fire further WITHOUT destroying the gun.
Thanks
I will buy this gun can’t wait until I can I buy that but I’m not really sure IF I can buy the longshot
It is awesome
sorry all you longshot hopefuls the long shot is no longer sold in stores RIP longshot cs6 *sniff* *sniff* ITS DEAD WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!
