Nerf Deploy CS-6 Review

The first thing I noticed when took the Deploy out of the box is that it comes with a strap. Finally! I don’t know why it took so long to get a strap on a Nerf gun, but it’s definitely a welcome feature.

At this point, I’d planned to play around with transforming the Deploy from gun to flashlight and back again, but I just couldn’t resist — I had to see how far it shoots before I could do anything else. The results of the range test were about as I expected. Shots ranged from 25-30 feet, which is not surprising at all, given that it uses a reverse plunger system like the one  found in the Nerf Recon and Raider.

The Deploy’s clip holds a maximum of six darts. Of course, this clip is interchangeable with other N-Strike clips, including the drum (which looks really ridiculous on the Deploy and feels plain silly).

Unfortunately, the pump action firing method is a bit of a mixed bag. The pump itself slides very smoothly and is easy to use, but the Deploy’s handle feels really flimsy (this is what happens when you make a collapsible handle to accommodate a transforming design).

Though it’s a little flimsy, overall the Deploy feels solid in my hands. It’s light and well constructed, as you would expect from a Nerf product.

As advertised, you can use components from other N-Strike guns on the Deploy.  As I’ve said in the past, most of the components are purely cosmetic in nature, but it’s undeniably cool that you can customize the appearance of your blaster as you see fit.

Now to the flashlight transformation element.

First things first, using the flashlight requires 3 AAA batteries (the same batteries operate the ‘laser’ targeting system). Folding up the Deploy is simple enough — just fold up the handle and slide the shoulder stock forward, and you’ll end up with a device that resembles a briefcase – with a flashlight at the end of it.

Transforming the Deploy back into a blaster again is the best part, as you only have to press a button on the top.

All in all, the Deploy is a solid gun, and I’d heartily recommend it to avid Nerf fans and kids who would get a kick out of the flashlight part. However, if you’re new to Nerf and just want to have some casual wars around the house or office, there are better guns out there.

Below is a picture of the back of the box (found via Adult Fans of Nerf ).

  1. Xavu says:

Just bought the Deploy, its so awesome. Has good range, accuracy, the only problem is that the handle is kind of awkward. Reminds me more of a battle rifle than a P90 by far. Flashlight proposes no problem- its just a built-in laser sight really. If you have the recon, take the barrel extension off and put it on this gun, it can use all the different barrel stuff. Awesome

    • Prunes says:

HORRIBLE!!!!! Now i don’t want to sound like a Hater but i have to disagree. I probably got a bad one, but it only works with totally new darts eats them not reliable the folded version is not needed and its not solid!

      • simon says:

hey man mine sucks to i thought flashlight deployed and i spent my whole allowance on it it really sucked i thought maybe it had more costomable things and i want to let you know i live at 901 wst 11 street marshfield wi and man im really in to nerf just started to

      • ShivTek says:

Same here. Just whenever you get the time take your little finger and put them in the hole behind the dart itself to straighten it out or something that fits.

  2. WWJEREMY says:

Loop the strap attached to the Deploy around your shoulder. Put on a bandolier kit, and fill it up. Attach a Longstrike on your back, with 3 clips in their respective places, and hold a Raider. I guarantee that you will never run out of ammo.

  3. Big Tuck says:

This gun is a sweet fire. It has a pretty good range and this gun is an awesome gun to run w/. Great for a game of search and eliminate in the neighborhood.

  4. Nerf General says:

I definetly have to get my hands on this gun just because of the flashlight mechanism, and the gun of course!

  5. I bought one today and it is ponage not too good on range or accuarcy but is so powerful and hurts

  6. ERS says:

I got this about a week ago and it is my favorite gun from the 5 I own. It has an awesome trasforming mode as well as a built in flashlight and scope. It gets excellent ranges about 40 feet ( a bit more then the longstrike ) The reason to this is because once you load the dart it does not have to travel through a tube before it takes off causing it to glide through the air more steadly. I recommend this to everyone from the beginners to the most advanced.

  7. Joe says:

I got the Deploy a couple of days ago, and I am loving it. Great range, built in flashlight, cool transformation…. But there is one problem with what seems like only mine. It has this weird jam where you have to reach into the area you put the clip in to flip this little switch, or else it won’t cock fully forward. This happens a lot, and, event though simple to fix, can suck if you are in a close quarters battle, which I find this is the best at. The Recon barrel looks really weird, but can increase your accuracy a good amount. Like most Nerf guns, the sights aren’t that accurate, even with the high power, though.

  8. QUICK DRAW says:

I have the deploy and it is probably my favorite gun [next to the maverick] it reminds me of the spaz shotgun and the light is a nice touch. I would recommend this gun to any dedicated fan.

  9. SKelly says:

Why is this the only gun that comes with a strap? To make strap get two belts and put them in the right spots. then hook them

  10. Zappyo says:

This is a pretty fun nerf gun, but if you dont load it right it jams, and jamming wrecks the bullets. i reccomend you buy some xtra darts + ammo clips. all in all, good gun.

  11. John Marston says:

My primary weapon for any nerf battle, 10/10 stars…

  12. Carter says:

i just got one and it looks sick its able to fold up and the light it like wow.Anyway its awesome oh and one more thing you can put the recon
front on so that’s an advantage to me:)

  13. IVAN TEE says:

this gun is really good.i got the one shown above that comes with a strap and a clear one without a strap.nice gun to release depression too

  14. helpless says:

cool with recon barrle and laser sight rubish range only shotes abot 10 feet though good for close commbat I geuss.

  15. nerf lover says:

very good gun accuracy OK but range is great. cool transformation. comes with strap light and a tactical rail which u dont realy need
    overall 9/10

  16. ryan says:

In some products of this gun it can have pore ranch with the spring being able to work the sliding stock and the firing and with doing these jobs has really bad range effecting the quality of the gun massively. It’s flipping clip system is bad because when shaken around the clip flips up without any means of doing and there should be a system to hold the clip in the down position

  17. Bullet Chaos says:

Please tell me which gun is better!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! : the deploy cs-6 or the alpha trooper cs-18 and where to buy in Australia LOL!!!!!!!!:)

  18. Prunes says:

    Alpha trooper!!!!!!!!!!!!

  19. Dan says:

Ok the pump sometimes makes an annoying noise and not very good range. I would recommend for close quarters.

    Bullet Chaos,
I would say the Alpha Trooper is better.

  20. Bubs69 says:

This is by far the worst gun ever made. I went out and made the mistake of getting one and after getting it home and trying it out I did what I thought was appropriate with a weapon of this magnitude I chucked it into the trash and chalked it up as a learning experience. I have just about every nerf gun made totaling close to a thousand dollars worth of toys but I am lacking this piece of junk in my arsenal and don’t miss it at all. GARBAGE!!!!

    • your CRAZY!!!!!!!!! the guns AWSOME

    • Thefirespliter says:

Deploy CS 6 really depends on luck. You may get one which shoots as long as longshot or longstrike but some may only shoot a pathetic 15 ft. I got one and it shoots real far, about 40 ft and it is lightweight and not very heavy,so I use it for close combats and long ranges. In my point of veiw, it’s awesome, best gun I ever had.
PS. This gun may also depend on your taste and in 100% of the Deploys made, 80% of it is rubbish and only 20% is awesome, you may be in the 80%.

  21. the guns cool i guess well my dad brought it for me as a surprise its range is ok[should have been better] its good bits are the butt but the handle is kindda loose but overall its a good gun

  22. El Ianlo says:

I was thinking of getting this, then I realized I want the Barrel Break (double barrel sawed-off shotgun available only at Toys ‘R’ Us)

  23. angie says:

whats better… nerf spectre or deploy?

  24. favicon says:

I just got this gun, and I have to agree with Bubs69 – it really sucks. I am planning to return it to the store with I have a chance. I got a clear series version, and I think the clear plastic is weaker than the original plastic, which is bad for the transforming mech. The launching mech is horrible, and even after I tried to fix it it still doesn’t work. Range is horrible, accuracy isn’t consistent, and really bulky for my taste. You can see a lot of hollow space in the gun, and the length isn’t really good for a stock use. I am very disappointed, this is honestly the first NERF gun that I have fully turned down. Shame.

  25. Cabbage says:

Bad range don’t know if dart or gun but I used new darts and still happens. Also it feels cheap and plasticky my recon fires far further and faster and it is cheaper. Like fold up and strap and it looks a bit bad too. Waste of £24. Don’t even bother get the Recon. Also Jamms my darts.

  26. valvatorez the tyrant says:

My Deploy SUCKS, it only Firing dart about 10-15 feet and its JAM a lot, I’m regretting for Buying this Piece of junk, i never use it in nerf wars, it so Suck! Garbage!
