The Nerf Switchfire is a fantastic Nerf gun — that is, if your idea of a fantastic Nerf gun is one with attachments that will launch off and kill someone with no warning.

The idea behind the Switchfire is that you can switch the attachments on the barrel, choosing between making the gun a missile launcher or a ball launcher. Hmm…how to pick. Both missiles and balls are known for their sad accuracy and mediocre range, so you know what, just pick one.

Or pick neither, because this is one of the rarest Nerf guns out there. Why, you ask? Well, remember what I said about the attachments launching off and hurting people? That’s true. Nerf pulled the Switchfire from shelves after it became something of a legal liability.

If you're after some good gatling gun action, you can't go wrong with the Nerf Rapid Fire!

The Nerf Rapid Fire 20 is incredibly fun to play with thanks to its immensely satisfying Gatling gun action. Just load the Rapid Fire with 20 darts, prime it (20 pumps), and fire all 20 rounds in less than 3 seconds.

One of the cool features of the Rapid Fire 20 is that you can toggle between automatic and single fire modes. In single fire mode you can either fire the shots off one at a time with individual trigger presses, or hold the trigger down for a slower version of the automatic mode (it’ll take you about 11-12 seconds to unload all 20 rounds).

The Nerf Rapid Fire 20 has a range of about 20 feet (I’m sensing a recurring theme), which might sound low, but it keeps the gun from being overpowered compared to other Nerf guns. Balance is important, after all, and it’s easy to forgive the range when you can blast off 20 darts in 3 seconds. That’s just awesome.

Of course, one of the big pains when you have a gun that blows through rounds like the Nerf Rapid Fire 20 does is that you’re going to spend a lot of time gathering your darts, reloading and priming. This is not unique to this Nerf gun, though. Other rapid fire blasters like the Vulcan and Raider face the same problem, but in my opinion, having to reload frequently is a fine tradeoff.

The priming pump on the Rapid Fire is prone to breaking if you aren’t careful. As with all pump guns, slow steady pumps are best. Erratic pumps (as younger kids are prone to do) will wear out and possibly break the pump. Just be careful and your Rapid Fire will have a long life.

If you’re looking for a unique Nerf gun that will make your friends run for cover and hide (for at least 3 seconds), you’ll have a lot of fun with the Rapid Fire 20.

The Nerf Secret Shot is a bit on the gimmicky side, but it’s still a pretty fun gun to play with.

You’ll probably never fool the same person more than once, which is why you should make it a habit to shoot strangers in the street. Everyone smiles when they’re hit with a Nerf dart.

Everyone.

Have you ever thought to yourself, ‘man it would be cool if I could shoot people around corners?’ I know that I have at least <del>never</del> once. Thankfully, the good people at Nerf anticipated our needs and made a barely functional weapon to address them.

The Nerf Sneak Shot comes with a mirror and a bendable barrel. Cool, eh? Now you can bend the barrel around the corner and see where you’re aiming with the mirror! Ingenious!

Only problem is, the mirror falls off all the time. Also (and I know this will come at a shock) if you bend the barrel of a gun, the velocity drastically decreases!!!

Even with the Nerf Sneak Shot, your chances of shooting someone from around the corner are zero, which happens to equal your chances of shooting someone from around the corner with any other gun.

In short, you’ll be no worse off without the Sneak Shot.

The Nerf Sharpshooter II is a decent upgrade to the original Nerf Sharpshooter.

The most obvious upgrade of the Sharpshooter II is the second barrel that is controlled by the green handle. The Sharpshooter II also features improved range and accuracy, as well as shorter time intervals between shots.

The one major annoyance is that the range differs between the top and bottom barrel, meaning that your aim might be perfect from one barrel and off on the next.

The Nerf Sharpshooter II is still a lot of fun to mess around with, though.

The Nerf Ripsaw is probably the most accurate ball weapon that Nerf has ever made, thanks to the wheel that spins the ball through the barrel.

The one unfortunate element if the Ripsaw is it’s really loud. I don’t know about you, but for me, the fun of Nerf guns is sneaking up behind someone and giving them a shot to the back of the head. Now tell me, could you sneak up behind someone if you were pushing a lawnmower? No? Then you couldn’t sneak behind them with the Ripsaw, either.

The Ripsaw can be fun provided the right environment — for instance, if you happened to be having a Nerf war on a construction site. Or with deaf people. Otherwise, you can do better with another gun.

What could be better than the Nerf Crossbow? The Nerf Double Crossbow!!! Erm…not really.

The Nerf Double Crossbow is cool in that it holds six missiles and it shoots them a long way, but the fact is, you aren’t going to hit anything with those missiles because they get all bendy on you. As a result, the accuracy is next to horrible.

It can still be a lot of fun to play around with the Double Crossbow, but with the accuracy problems, your enjoyment will be somewhat limited.

Released in 1995, the Nerf Crossbow was the first Nerf weapon ever made that had the ability to fire two types of ammo (darts and arrows).

Out of the box, the crossbow can easily achieve ranges of 40 feet or more. To put it simply, this is one of the most sought after Nerf guns ever made, because with a few quick mods it can easily hit ranges over 100 feet.

Firing the Nerf Crossbow is simple. You pull back the handle until it locks in place, and release the tension with a pull of the trigger. As a little bit of trivia, the Nerf Crossbow was the first Nerf arrow weapon that could be fired with a trigger.

The Nerf Crossbow was the first blaster to come with an integrated shoulder stock. It is exceptionally accurate and reliable, and if you have one I recommend you either keep your hands on it or sell it — it isn’t uncommon to see these sell for more than $200 on eBay.
