In its day, the Nerf Warthog was one of the best dart blasters on the market, and it is still pretty desirable for collectors & modders alike.

The Warthog is a spring blaster that simultaneously shoots two darts up to 35 feet with surprisingly good accuracy. Now, as I’ve said before, I really don’t like the Nerf blasters that have animal features, but the Warthog is an exception. The teeth may not add any functionality, but they look pretty cool and they’re unobtrusive.

If you happen across the Nerf Warthog at a yard sale you should definitely pick it up.

Plagued by poor range and a frequent jamming rate, the Sawtooth was never a reliable Nerf weapon, which is too bad given it’s impeccable accuracy.

First things first: The Nerf Razorbeast is big. Really big.

Thanks to its size, the Razorbeast can hold up to fifteen darts at at a time. The firing mechanism is also pretty cool, with the hand crank on the side of it (unless you’re left-handed, in which case you can’t use this gun. Sorry).

Unfortunately, the Razorbest lacks punch. Both range and accuracy are lacking, and ultimately the Nerf Razorbeast just isn’t worth lugging around.

The Nerf Rattler was a solid Nerf gun for its time. A semiautomatic, the Rattler can shoot off four rounds in succession before it needs to be reloaded.

The firing lever is a bit strange and hard to get used to, and it’s hard to hold the gun steady while using the lever, thus resulting in some accuracy problems.

The Rattler was later replaced by the Nerf Ratchetblast, but it’s still a fine weapon in its own right.

The Nerf Manta Ray boasts one of the most unique designs Nerf has ever incorporated into one of their guns.

Unlike a lot of the Maxforce guns where the animal elements are more tacked on than functional, the Nerf Manta Ray actually ads some interesting functionality.

For starters, the Manta Ray was the first Nerf gun that could shoot multiple darts at the same time. Making it even cooler, the barrels are pointed at angles so that both of your darts will converge upon a single point about 25 feet from the target.

The Nerf Manta Ray can also be used as a dart shield, which is pretty cool. After some practice, you can make yourself pretty much invincible with the shield. Thankfully, the shield can also be easily removed if you don’t care for it.

The Nerf Mad Hornet represents a landmark for Nerf, as it was the first Nerf weapon with a trigger to fire with air pressure rather than a spring mechanism.

While the Nerf Mad Hornet broke new ground, it was also fairly disappointing. The Mad Hornet couldn’t fire more than 25 feet. Still, it’s a decent semi-automatic Nerf blaster.

You’ve probably seen those little toys with the shark head on the end, and when you squeeze the handle the shark’s mouth opens?

The Nerf Iron Raptor seems to have borrowed from the shark toy. When you fire, the raptor opens its mouth and out shoots your dart.

Other than the design, the Iron Raptor doesn’t have much to set it apart from the rest of the Nerf guns. The range is decent (better than you would probably expect given the gimmick of the whole thing), but really, who wants to carry a dinosaur around?

The Nerf Gator is one of the worst Nerf guns ever made -- as if the fact that the gun is shaped like an alligator wasn't enough for you to already guess as much.

The Nerf Gator is one of the worst Nerf guns ever made — as if the fact that the gun is shaped like an alligator wasn’t enough for you to already guess as much.

The Nerf Gator is a single-shot dart blaster. To load the darts into the Gator, you have to hold the Gator’s mouth open with one hand and slide the dart inside with the other, which is just awful.

You’ll also notice the lack of a trigger on the Nerf Gator. To fire this thing you have to pull back its tail and then release it to fire. Because it’s almost impossible to line up a shot this way, the Gator is one of the most horrifically inaccurate Nerf guns you will ever see.

In the end, there are only three reasons why you should ever buy one of these blasters:

1. You’re a collector.

2. You want to humiliate your friends by shooting them with a dart that came out of an alligator’s mouth.

3. You want to see exactly how not to make a Nerf gun.

The Nerf Eagle Eye was the first Nerf weapon ever to incorporate laser sighting. And by laser, I mean a concentrated red beam of light that was woefully inaccurate. But hey, it was fun anyway, and the “laser” represents a landmark for Nerf, even if the Eagle Eye itself was pretty mediocre.
